Air Cooled Heatsinks - Fabricated Heatsink Assembly - Swaged Assembly FabfinŽ

Mixed Metals

The Fabfin and Dual Baseplate processes are ideally suited to the swaging of aluminum baseplates to copper fins or visa versa. Best thermal performance at the lowest cost is typically best achieved by using aluminum for the baseplate(s) and copper for the fins. Alternatively, mixed metal fins of aluminum and copper can be used to optimize thermal performance versus weight (cost).

A grease is used between all aluminum/copper interfaces to eliminate the possibility of galvanic corrosion.

Depending on the length of the heatsink, crosscuts will be required when using copper fins to avoid coefficient of expansion issues but the cross cuts add the benefit of increased turbulence. Click "Mixed Metal Characterization" for further information.
