While through holes eliminate the need for plugging as part of the chromate/anodize process it does require duburring deep between the fins. Blind holes on the other hand eliminate the need for deburring but requires that the holes are plugged during the chromate/anodize process. These conflicts when coupled with the very high density of fins of fabricated heatsinks lead us to make the following recommendations to keep costs to a minimum:

  • Specify blind holes wherever possible in the mounting surface. It should be recognized that some streaking may occur at the plugged holes and as such cosmetic requirements must be specified at time of RFQ.
  • Through holes in the mounting surface eliminate the need to plug. It should be noted however, that deburring between the fins may leave minor scratches near the through holes and as such cosmetic requirements must be specified at time of RFQ.
